Georgetown's Best Pet-Friendly Parks

Georgetown is home to several fantastic pet-friendly parks. We've covered even more great spots in our full guide to parks in Georgetown, but here are a few of our favorites for summer adventures.

San Gabriel Park

If your pet loves peaceful riverside strolls, San Gabriel Park is a dream. We visit this spot on Texas Ruff House field trips because of its shady trails and wide-open space, perfect for a relaxed sniff session or a brisk morning walk.

Summer Tip: It may be shady, but those Texas temps don’t play! Morning and evening walks are best for avoiding the heat.

Blue Hole Park

For pets who love scenic views (and let’s be honest, the humans do too!), Blue Hole Park is a gorgeous getaway. While swimming isn’t recommended for pups here, it’s a leash-friendly spot for a cool riverside walk.

Water Safety Alert: Some Texas lakes and rivers can develop toxic algae, which is dangerous for pets. Before heading to any body of water, check out our guide to toxic algae.

Pflugerville's Best Parks for Pets

Pflugerville has some fantastic spots for pet-friendly adventures, offering a mix of open spaces and shaded trails. Whether your pet loves a scenic stroll or prefers sniffing around under the trees, the city's extensive trail system provides plenty of options to explore. As the Trail Capital of Texas, Pflugerville takes pride in its well-connected paths. Check out Pflugerville’s trails for even more great outdoor routes. Gilleland Creek Park

We love Gilleland Creek Park for its shady trails, creek access, and sprawling green spaces. Whether your pet is a trailblazer or a slow sniffer, there’s plenty of room to explore.

Summer Tip: If your pet likes dipping their paws in the creek, test the water first! Hot water can be just as dangerous as hot pavement.

Wilbarger Creek Park (New!)

Exciting news for Pflugerville pet parents! Wilbarger Creek Park has recently expanded, offering new shaded trails, seating, and more room to roam. While the park does include a dog park, we recommend sticking to the walking trails for a safer experience.

Why We Skip Dog Parks: Texas Ruff House doesn’t bring pets to dog parks due to safety concerns, like unpredictable interactions and disease exposure. Want to know why? Read our guide to dog parks.

Round Rock’s Top Pet-Friendly Parks

Round Rock has a mix of scenic trails and open spaces that make for great pet-friendly outings. Whether you're looking for a quiet walk or a spacious park to explore, here are some top picks.

Old Settlers Park

Big, bold, and packed with trails, Old Settlers Park is a summer favorite. But beware, some paths don’t have shade, meaning midday outings can feel like walking on the sun!

Summer Tip: If your pet loves wide-open spaces, bring a cooling vest and a travel water bottle to help them stay cool while exploring.

Chisholm Trail Crossing Park

History meets nature at Chisholm Trail Crossing Park! This quaint, tree-dotted park is perfect for a low-key summer walk, with plenty of shaded seating for quick cooldown breaks.

Paw Protection Alert: Before stepping out, test the pavement with your hand. If it’s too hot for you, it’s way too hot for paws!

Beating the Heat: Indoor Alternatives for Summer Days

Some days, the Texas sun just doesn't quit, and outdoor adventures become a big nope. Luckily, there are plenty of indoor pet-friendly spots where your four-legged friend can still have fun. We round up our favorite indoor field trip choices in our guide to pet-friendly indoor spots.

Summer Safety Tips for Park Adventures

  • Walk at the right time. Early mornings and evenings are cooler.

  • Hydration is everything. Always bring fresh water (and maybe a few ice cubes for fun)!

  • Know the signs of overheating. Heavy panting, drooling, and sluggish behavior? Time to cool down!

  • Be pavement aware. Test the ground before walking—your pup’s paws will thank you.

At Texas Ruff House, we love exploring pet-friendly parks with our furry friends on our field trips, but summer safety always comes first. Choosing shady trails, keeping pets hydrated, and avoiding peak heat makes every adventure safer, happier, and tail-wag-worthy. So grab your leash, pack some water, and let your pet sniff out a new summer favorite!
